Best of Lakeland - Attractions leaflet

Best of Lakeland is an attractions only leaflet, showcasing over 65 attractions and things to do in Cumbria and the Lake District. The leaflet is used outside of the county as a fulfilment piece to support the national media campaign and as a ‘Days out' Leaflet for those already in county.

A total of 420,000 copies are produced, 55,000 of which are produced in five foreign languages - Chinese, French, German, Japanese and Spanish. Distribution channels include tourist information centres and information points in Cumbria, North Lancashire and Yorkshire; gateway sites including northwest airports, ferry terminals, train and bus stations; motorway service stations accommodation providers and onboard DFDS seaways ferry services. In addition, the leaflet is supported by a variety of marketing activity both on and offline and copies are included within Cumbria Tourism's pre-visit packs sent to visitors who book accommodation online through Golakes.

The Taste District - Food and drink campaign

Great food, traditional fare and passionate producers are as distinctly Cumbrian as lakes and mountains. Good food is a reason to visit in itself and the Taste District is a fully integrated marketing campaign.

The 2010 Taste District campaign introduced a new pocket map format and increased the print run to 100,000 (from 30,000 in 2009). We also introduced a quarterly Taste District eMagazine with food and drink articles and features and special offers from Taste District advertisers.

Prices for 2011 to be confirmed.  For more information contact Ian Hawkins on 01539 822222 or ihawkins@cumbriatourism.org

Media Campaign

The Holiday Guide, golakes.co.uk website and the destination as a whole are all supported and promoted through a national multi-media campaign worth approx. £100,000.

Our advertising campaign evolves with the market and uses leading-edge technology and innovative channels alongside tried-and-tested media. Activity throughout 2009 included insert activity in national titles (Daily Telegraph, Guardian and Mail on Sunday), geo-targeted PPC (pay per click) campaigns through Google and more traditional lead generation activity (including brochure panels in Take a Break in the UK, Planning a UK Holiday, Holiday Guide Finder and Where to Go in Britain).

Every year this media activity generates approx. 100,000 requests for the Holiday Guide and drives substantial traffic to the golakes website where visitors make £2.9 million worth online bookings every year. Moreover, it is a vehicle to raise awareness and profile of the destination, positioning it as England's number one rural tourism destination.
