Cumbria's Destination Management System (DMS)
Cumbria Tourism has spent the past seven years developing a Destination Management System. The DMS contains information about Cumbria, accommodation, attractions, events, restaurants activities, shopping and even information about walks, cycle routes, towns, villages and beauty spots.
This information is then distributed to the Tourist Information Centre (TIC) network in Cumbria, to associated websites and via Englandnet to the VisitBritain and VisitEngland websites. To date, the data from the DMS appears on 19 websites in Cumbria ranging from district councils to smaller tourism associations and since its launch in 2003 has processed in excess of £15m worth of accommodation reservations.
How can it benefit my business?
Your information only needs to be collected once, and not many times by each of the partner organisations. This information is the input into a central database and fed out to the channels mentioned above.
The system allows potential customers to see your room details, prices and availability. For attractions it means that you can describe the features of your attraction such as children's play area or cafe.
For accommodation providers the DMS also allows you to update your availability and prices via the phone, fax or internet. When you update your information this update is automatically seen by visitors to the websites that you have chosen to advertise on and by all of the TICs that are using the system. The tools used by the TICs allow them to search and book accommodation for the visitor.
Will my information be seen by potential visitors/residents?
You need to make sure that you are advertising with one of the organisations that work to promote Cumbria to visitors and residents. Most organisations will charge you to advertise on their websites or in their guides.
If you do not currently work with any of these organisations but you would like your information to be seen by the TICs then you can still provide us with your details and we will send you information on how to update your availability and prices. Of course your information will not be seen on websites by online customers. For your details to be listed in TICs and online we require all accommodation establishments to have a current quality grading. More information on gradings
How can I register or find out further information?
If you would like to register your business with the DMS please download the appropriate form below. Once complete, return this form with an image of your establishment to Cumbria Tourism. This data will then be input into the DMS. For accommodation businesses we will send you information on how to update your details on the Guestlink system.
