Destination Branding

About Cumbria Tourism

In recent years, Cumbria Tourism has played a major role in rebuilding the visitor economy after Foot and Mouth and has been instrumental in growing visitor numbers to over 16 million per annum. Cumbria Tourism will continue this excellent work and will remain at the heart of our visitor economy as the passionate voice of tourism representing businesses, visitors and partner organisations.

Our mission is to create a world class visitor experience. We aim to achieve this working with a set of shared values to deliver:

Cumbria Tourism aspires to be excellent in all aspects of our Tourist Board and Destination Management remit. Achieving, maintaining and improving on our 'excellence ambition' is not an easy task but one which all staff at CT are totally committed to and determined to progress. The private sector and public sector partnership that is CT goes from strength to strength, we now have membership which represents over 3,000 visitor dependent businesses, in turn these businesses represent over 20,000 people, therefore reaching most people employed in some aspect or other of tourism in Cumbria.

Also in partnership on our Executive Board are valued representatives from the Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership, Cumbria County Council, the Lake District National Park Authority and the District Councils. Our working groups have input by private and public sector representatives and cover Policy and Development and Commercial Services, both report into the Executive Board.

Our shared Tourism Strategy for Cumbria has a clear vision - to become Europe's Number One rural tourism destination. Again, no shortage of ambition here. We won't achieve such ambition without the input of the commercial sector and we recognise the need to improve considerably on many fronts. Please keep involved and please keep helping us become a truly world class visitor destination.
