Cumbria Tourism is a major economic growth agent for the County and underpins the generation of over £1.1 billion of revenue and supports 35,000 jobs (one in 7 jobs in Cumbria, compared to one in 15 in the North West and one in 12 in the UK).

Cumbria Tourism has 3,300 business members and represents a strong industry voice to enable collaboration and coordination across a large geographical area.

Golakes website generates £3m in bookings

Cumbria Tourism manages the award winning ‘golakes' website which attracts 0ver 150,000 unique visitors per month and generates £3m worth of bookings per annum.

100 journalists hosted a year

Each year Cumbria Tourism's PR team host over 100 key journalists throughout the county, generate more than £2.5 million in equivalent advertising for the area deal with over 2,500 requests for information from journalists - the equivalent of around 50 enquiries per week

600 businesses advised per year

Cumbria Tourism advises over 600 businesses annually on their improvement plans on subjects such as marketing, refurbishments, training and skills development and research.

Promote The Lake District brand

Cumbria Tourism promotes The Lake District Cumbria brand nationally and internationally and delivers visitors to under developed parts of Cumbria such as Carlisle & Hadrian's Wall and West Cumbria.

Deliver an accommodation grant scheme

Cumbria Tourism delivers an Accommodation Grant Scheme which for every £1 of public money invested levers an additional £6 from the private sector.

Adventure Capital

Cumbria Tourism identifies new markets and is leading the development of Adventure Tourism in Cumbria.

Best Practice

Cumbria Tourism is regarded as a model of best practice in tourism development and marketing and rewarded by strong partnership support from the private and public sector.

Cumbria Tourism aspires to be excellent in all aspects of our Tourist Board and Destination Management remit. Achieving, maintaining and improving on our 'excellence ambition' is not an easy task but one which all staff at CT are totally committed to and determined to progress. The partnership that is CT goes from strength to strength, we now have membership which represents over 3,300 visitor dependent businesses, in turn these businesses represent over 20,000 people, therefore reaching most people employed in some aspect or other of tourism in Cumbria.

Also in partnership on our Executive Board are valued representatives from Cumbria County Council, the Lake District National Park Authority, the District Councils, the Northwest Development Agency, VisitEngland, Business Link and Committee members from our working groups, covering Marketing, Development and Industry Services together they report into the Executive Board; the input by private and public sector representatives is crucial and highly valued.

Our shared Tourism Strategy for Cumbria has a clear vision - to become Europe's Number One rural tourism destination. Again, no shortage of ambition here. We won't achieve such ambition without the input of the commercial sector and we recognise the need to improve considerably on many fronts.
